Laurie is a professional visual artist and an active visual artists' advocate. Ranging in style from realistic to abstract, her art explorations feature a variety of mediums including acrylics on canvas, mixed media on gypsum, monotypes, watercolor, pastels, hand-made paper collage, fabric and beads. Her artwork has been exhibited locally, regionally and nationally and she has received numerous awards including the Lawrence Arts Commission's Phoenix Award in Visual Arts (2002). Her works are in many private, public and corporate collections, and in the Spencer Museum of Art's 'Classroom Collection.'
Laurie earned a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Kansas, and is a former Lawrence Art Guild co-president and vice-president, the co-founder of the Phoenix Gallery (1982), a member of the F.A.N. Club (1987) and Artist for the Bert Nash Community Health Center (1988). Laurie has also volunteered as art exhibit coordinator for the Lawrence Public Library for 15 years.
